India vs New Zealand Highlights 2nd T20: India beat New Zealand by 7 wickets to win series

He gets down on one knee to slog the first ball from Neesham in the 18th over for a six over deep mid-wicket. And then sealed the win for India with his trademark one-handed six over long-off fence. India win by 7 wickets to take unassailable 2-0 lead in three-match series

New Zealand skipper dismissed Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav in the same over, his final in the innings, as India suffered a late jolt. The hosts now stand 17 away from victory in 24 balls.

With six over fine leg fence against Milne, Rohit has notched up his half-century. India now need 20 off 30 to win the series

Rahul fell to a slower delivery from Southee as he holed it out to Phillips in deep mid-wicket. The New Zealand skipper broke the 117-run opening stand. Venkatesh Iyer walked in next

This is the fourth time Rahul and Rohit have stitched a century stand for India as openers, which is the joint-most in T20Is, equally the record by Dhawan-Rohit and Pakistan's Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan.

India 105/0 in 12 overs

His fourth fifty in last five T20I innings and 16th overall. And he gets to the mark with a six smashed over deep extra cover against Adam Milne. He has been in sublime form and India are on the way for a series victory in Ranchi. 

23 balls since India struck a boundary and the pressure was mounting on the opening pair, before Rohit broke the shackles to take the risk, as he smashed Santner for two sixes in the 10th over - one over cow corner and the other, a 85m six over deep mid-wicket. He looked for another, but the Rohit mistimed and sliced it instead before Boult dropped it at long-on.

India 79/0 in 10 overs

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have become the seventh opening pair to amass 1000 runs between themselves in T20Is and second from India after the pair of Dhawan and Rohit, who are the top run-getters with their tally of 1743 runs in 52 innings. The Rahul-Rohit pair have scored at a quicker rate, reaching the feat in just 19 innings, at an average of 55. India are also the second nation to have two opening pairs to amass 1000 runs together in T20Is.

India 69/0 in 9.1 overs

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have stitched their fifth consecutive half-century stand in T20Is and 13th fifty-plus stand overall, extending their record at the top for India. They have now amassed 983 runs as an opening pair which is the seventh-most in T20Is and second-highest for India after the pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit.

Southee pulled things back in the fifth over conceding only three singles. However, Rahul took on Boult in his first ball in the sixth over to slice the shorter delivery over cover for a six. India finished powerplay with 45/0

Rahul kicked off the chase in a similar manner to that of Guptill, outside edge flying off to the boundary for a four. He then took on Boult to hit two boundaries and then flicked one over mid-wicket for a four against Adam Milne. Rohit then joined him with a six smashed over deep mid-wicket fence. 

India 32/0 in 4 overs

64 runs were scored in the powerplay and New Zealand showed their intentions were clear. 170-180 seemed to be their target. But the spinners pulled things back brilliantly before Harshal Patel picked two wickets on his debut to restrict New Zealand to 153 for six.

Neesham had to get his bat changed after a piece of wood broke while attempting a shot in the fifth delivery off the 18th over. However, Neesham nicked off the final ball as Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked his first wicket. New Zealand went 6 down

A six, no ball, beaten off the free-hit delivery and then the slower ball did the magic again as Harshal Patel dismissed Glenn Phillips. New Zealand lost their fifth wicket

It was a flatter delivery from Ashwin and Seifert reverse swept it straight to the fielder at third man as New Zealand lost their fourth wicket.

New Zealand 125/4 in 15.1 overs

India have been sensational today in the middle overs, conceding 61 runs between overs 7 and 15, which comprised five boundaries and 18 dots balls. The spinners have been superb in these overs.

Axar: 21 runs in three overs - 4 dots, 2 boundaries

Ashwin: 8 runs in two overs - 5 dots, zero boundaries

It's the slower delivery, that same weapon that made him the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021, that worked for Harshal Patel as Daryl Mitchell holed ity out to Suryakymar Yadav in long-on. New Zealand have now gone three down for 90 in 11.2 overs

A low full toss from Axar was smashed straight by Glenn Phillips to Iyer at long-off, but he came at it quickly and the ball popped out his hands, juggled twice before dropping it.

New Zealand 89/2 in 11 overs

The spinners have played their part in slowing things down after an explosive powerplay from New Zealand. Axar and Ashwin have conceded 15 runs between themselves in the three overs after powerplay, picking one wicket. The other over belonged to debutant Harshal Patel, who conceded five runs only. Axar begins again after the break.

Axar dished out a flighted delivery and pitched it up as Chapman launched it straight to the fielder in the deep. Axar has now picked his first T20I wicket since 2017.

New Zealand 79/2 in 8.5 overs

New Zealand scored 41 runs in the last game for the loss of one wicket. Today they have raced away to 64/1 at the end of the powerplay and that includes eight boundaries and two sixes. This is the highest powerplay score for New Zealand against India in India.

Guptill welcomed back both the pacers with a six down the ground. He charged down the ground to taker the fuller one from Bhuvneshwar to smash a 84m six. In the fifth over, he shimmied down again to launch Deepak Chahar's delivery over long-on for a maximum to move to 31 off 15. But it is Chahar who had the last laugh, once again, dismissing Guptill.

New Zealand 48/1 in 4.2 overs

Guptill was lucky to get off the mark with a boundary off the outside edge in the first delivery oof the game, but the boundary in the next ball and the final ball made intentions clear. Bhuvneshwar conceded 14 runs in the opening over, which is the most by any Indian bowler in the over in T20Is. Daryl Mitchell then joined the party, scoring back-to-back boundaries against Deepak Chahar in the second over.

New Zealand 24/0 in 2 overs

With the boundary against Bhuvneshwar, over mid-off, Guptill became the highest run-getter in T20Is, surpassing India's Virat Kohli.

Tim Southee: We would have bowled first, taking the dew into consideration. It's always about trying to improve. We have to focus on the positives. We'll have to deal with the dew, and find a way to put up a good performance. We have three changes.

Rohit Sharma: We are going to field first. We have seen it here, it's a nice option to go with. Considering the dew factor, it's good to chase in Ranchi. It was a good effort from the boys. It was a good learning for them as they finished the game, it was a good positive to have from that game. The game is such that you need some energy and experience. We have youngsters who want to express themselves, it's a good setup, it's important moving forward. We have one change, Harshal comes in for Siraj.

"The average score at this venue is 155, it's a big ground with big dimensions. There's very little grass on the wicket, it'll be a good pitch for spinners and bowlers who can bowl cutters. The team bowling first might extract some purchase as compared to the team bowling second. Looks a tacky wicket."

In the last 10 games in Ranchi, teams batting second have won six matches. However, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan, admitted on air that the dew has already arrived.

Todd Astle conceded 34 runs in the first T20I without picking a wicket. So New Zealand might want to go back to Ish Sodhi for the second game.

Siraj suffered an injury in his final over and his participation is yet to be confirmed. So India might go with either IPL 2021's purple cap winner Harshal Patel, or the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, Avesh Khan.

The New Zealand opener needs just 11 runs to surpass India's Virat Kohli's tally of 3227 runs to become the leading run-getter in T20I cricket. Guptill presently stands second with 3217 runs in 110 matches. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma stands third on the list with 3086 runs in 117 matches, thereby standing 142 runs short of Kohli's tally
