Covid-19 Highlights: Uttarakhand to impose curfew from May 11 to May 18

Minister of state for finance Anurag Thakur said that 70 per cent of the total revenue collected on Covid-19 vaccines is received by states, reports ANI.

Telangana government has decided to invite applications for temporary appointments of doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists and other para medical staff to fight Covid-19, the chief minister's office said.

Dr Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, told reporters on Sunday that the only solution to the onslaught of Covid-19 pandemic in India is vaccination. INS Airavat, the Indian Navy tanker ship, is scheduled to arrive in Vishakhapatnam tomorrow. The tanker ship will be carrying eight 20 tonne empty cryogenic oxygen cylinders, 3150 oxygen cylinders, 500 filled oxygen cylinders, 10,000 Rapid Antigen Test kits, and 450 PPE kits from Singapore, reported news agency ANI.

Uttarakhand government had decided to enforce a 'Covid curfew' in state from May11 to May 18 to restrict the spread of Covid-19 in the state, reported ANI. The curfew will come into force from 6am and only essential services will be allowed to operate.

The Uttar Pradesh government extended the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown in the state by one more week till May 17, reported news agency PTI. The lockdown was earlier scheduled to end on May 10.

Thailand reported 2,101 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the country-wide total to 83,375. 17 new fatalities were also recorded in the last 24 hours, reported news agency ANI.

23 Covid-19 patients in Delhi have left Hindu Rao Hospital in the last couple of weeks without informing the concerned authorities, NDMC Mayor Jai Prakash told news agency ANI. Delhi Disaster Management Authority and Delhi Police have been informed about the same, the mayor added.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inspected the DRDO built Covid-19 hospital at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) premises.

The 'corona curfew', which was imposed in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) earlier, has been extended till 7am on May 17. Only essential services are allowed. The permissible limit for gathering has been reduced to 25.

Global aid of 6,608 oxygen concentrators, 3,856 oxygen cylinders, 14 oxygen plants, 4,330 ventilators, and over 3 lakh Remdesivir vials have been dispatched to states and union territories to combat Covid-19. Over 17.8 lakh beneficiaries under the 18-44 age group have been vaccinated, the Government of India said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the chief ministers of Punjab, Karnataka, Bihar and Uttarakhand on the Covid-19 related situation in their respective states, said Government of India sources on Sunday.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on Sunday extended the lockdown in the national capital by one week till May 17. The chief minister said that in the last 2-3 days, the positivity rate has come down to 23% from 35%. Read More

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help strengthen the state's health infrastructure to combat the Covid-19 outbreak. Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, requesting him to waive GST, customs duty, taxes on oxygen concentrators, cylinders, and Covid-19 related drugs.

Uttar Pradesh has extended the partial 'corona curfew', that was imposed earlier, till May 17. News agency ANI reported the development, citing ACS (Information) Navneet Sehgal.

The central government on Sunday said that as many as 169,439,663 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered till now, of which 2,023,532 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.

Three oxygen centers have been opened in Meerut, where people can deposit their empty cylinders, and in 24 to 48 hours they will get refilled cylinders. "People have to bring their Aadhaar card, patient's Aadhaar card, and doctor's prescription," said Meerut Municipal Corporation Commissioner.

A state-level curfew has been imposed in Goa from today (i.e. May 9, Sunday) till May 24. Essential services have been allowed to function. Grocery shops remain open from 7am to 1pm, while restaurant takeaway orders are allowed from 7am to 7pm.

India has tested a total of 30,22,75,471 samples as of May 8. Out of this, 18,65,428 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases jumped to 3,736,648 and 18,317,404 people have recovered with 386,444 were discharged in a span of 24 hours, figures updated at 8am on the health ministry’s dashboard showed.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Sunday said that it was building two Covid-19 care hospitals in Haldwani and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. The hospital in Haldwani will have 500 beds, including 375 oxygen beds and 125 ventilator beds, while the one in Rishikesh will have 400 oxygen beds and 100 ventilator beds, said a DRDO official.
