Retired MP IFS officer’s death: Probe so far suggests it’s an accident

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Odisha on Sunday said investigation into the death of former Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer from Madhya Pradesh Vijay Bahadur, suggests that he was killed in an accident.

They, however, said that they were waiting for the post-mortem report to formally establish the cause of the death.

Superintendent of railway police, Raurkela, Karam Sey Kawar told Hindustan Times over phone that investigation into the case was completed and an autopsy report was awaited.

“Investigation into the case, so far, suggests that it was an accident,” he said.

“We have recorded the statements of Vijay Bahadur’s family members and also some of the passengers (in the compartment in which he was travelling). We are waiting for the post mortem report, which is expected to be received by Monday evening.”

Meanwhile, Ajay Dubey, a whistleblower in Vyapam scam, said he believes that the retired officer was killed under mysterious circumstances and an inquiry by the central bureau of investigation (CBI) should be conducted into the incident.

Dubey, who wrote a letter to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik demanding that the probe be handed over to the CBI, said the retired bureaucrat was a central observer for two of the 17 admission for recruitment examinations conducted by Vyapam over the past four years, which were being investigated by the CBI.

“He was observer of 17 exams and he had lot of information about the exams,” he said.

He further said Bahadur’s body was found about 200m before Belpahara railway station in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

“There is no stoppage of Puri – Jodhpur Express at Belpahara railway station but the train was stopped there. This raised suspicion as to why it was done,” he said.

Bahadur’s body was found on a railway track in Jharsuguda on October 15. The former IFS officer had gone missing from his air conditioned coach of the Puri-Jodhpur Express in which he was travelling with his wife.
