Kapoor Singh, a disciple of Janjua, said, “In the morning, we heard that he died of heart attack and was alone at his house in Mumbai. He had gone there for the recording of a song. The family rushed to Mumbai on hearing the news. He was suffering from diabetes.”

Sagar, another disciple, said, “The family had no child so they adopted a son, whose birthday they were to celebrate next week.”

Punjabi poet Gurbhajan Gill, who has spent a lot time with him, said, “I first met him in 1983. He was a nice man. I have seen the days of his struggle and of success. He sang the song, ‘Rok lao nishanebazian putt mukk challe maawan de’ in 1989 that I wrote. Those were the days of terrorism in Punjab. The song was against terrorism and people liked it. And he had the courage to sing it.”
