Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will soon be seen dancing to a remixed rendition of the hit song, ‘Eena meena deeka’ (from the 1957 release, Aasha), in their new film that is being directed by Vikas Bahl.
While the music for Aasha was composed by C Ramchandra, the lyrics were written by Rajendra Krishan. Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle lent their voices to the original song.
Incidentally, ‘Eena meena deeka’ is considered one of Bollywood’s first rock ‘n’ roll numbers. It is said that its lyrics were inspired by kids who were chanting the nursery rhyme, ‘Eeny, meeny, miny, moe’ outside the musician’s studio when the song was being composed. That chant inspired Ramchandra and his assistant, John Gomes to compose the first line — ‘Eena meena deeka, de dai damanika’ — of the song. Gomes added the words ‘Maka naka’ (Konkani for ‘I don’t want’).
The new version has been composed by Mikey McCleary, who is known for his remixes of classic Bollywood songs. The video was shot during the course of the film’s schedule.
