Swara took to Twitter to call them out for their misogynist comment. “Awwwwwww!!!!! My trolls are hard at work again, sweating it out in the heat to popularise my name.. You guys are SO dedicated & sweet!!! Don’t mind the slut-shaming guys.. their imagination is a bit limited.. but loving the effort you two,” she wrote in a tweet.

Swara’s tweet found support from her followers. “A Bollywood actor does a scene portraying a woman masturbating in film. That alone becomes a defining moment for a bunch of regressive lunatics who seem to believe women don’t deserve or have a right to pleasure. Definitely more of a commentary on the loony bunch than the actor,” wrote one. “What the what? The regressive lunatics, although urban, apparently educated youngsters are just enraged by a woman speaking her mind? And a masturbation scene in a film is their only reference point?,” wrote another.

Swara has often been shamed online for the scene from Veere Di Wedding. She was also asked on Twitter about it last year. “How masturbating related to empowerment, and that empowerment does not mean that one should masturbate in public. It’s private”. She had replied, “Sakshi was in her ‘private’ bedroom, not public. Masturbation is about owning ur body, sexuality. Empowering. In a culture that largely silences or ignores or shames female sexuality showing a girl gratifying herself in a film in a non judgemental way is empowering,” she had said.
