A 35-year-old advocate allegedly committed suicide by consuming celphos tablets at his wife’s parental house in Sector 22 on Wednesday.
Police said Avneesh Thakur, a resident of SAS Nagar, and his wife, Manju, were going through matrimonial dispute.
On Wednesday afternoon, Thakur came to meet Manju at her parental house in Sector 22. After their meeting, he went to the bedroom.
But he did not open the door despite several calls by Manju, following which she called in her brother, who broke open the door and found Thakur lying unconscious on the bed.
Manju said her husband was breathing when he was rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, but doctors there declared him brought dead.
During further course of investigations, police found a suicide note from the spot wherein Thakur had held no one responsible for his extreme step.
Police said the court had asked Thakur to stay with his wife for some days.
“There were no signs of assault on the body. A case of suicide has been registered. Viscera of the deceased have been sent to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) for chemical analysis,” a police official said.
