Led by district organising secretary Rajesh Sachdeva alias Neetu, hundreds of INLD workers joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a function held in Ambala Cantt assembly segment on Thursday.
Sachdeva said the decision of enmasse joining the BJP had been taken to prevent the splitting of anti-Congress votes as the INLD candidate from the region had almost no chance of winning the seat.
Against the model supported by Congress, the workers decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and support MLA Anil Vij.
Welcoming them to the party, Vij said the new entrants would be given due respect in the party, adding that BJP would be further strengthened with their presence.
"A workers meeting will be held in which erstwhile Indian National Lok Dal leaders and the BJP workers will meet," he added.
While talking to media persons, Vij also claimed that if his party came to power in the state, it would provide ensure that jobs were given on merit. "Our party will emphasise on the basics such as 'bijli, pani, sadak and safai'," he added.
