According to a notice put up by the department of community education & disability studies on August 13, two seats for the MEd (special) in learning disability studies course remained vacant after the first round of admissions got over on August 8.

Strangely, the notice stated there would be no waiting list and the seats would be offered to candidates on first-come first-served basis.

Those interested were asked to pay the fees in person on the same day. Students from far-flung areas were to participate in the counselling session such as Punjab. Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

A student named Priyanka Midda, who did not receive any information about the vacant seats, has now complained to the vice-chancellor’s office about what she called the “dubious” admission process adopted by the department.

She said since she was on the top of the waiting list she should have been automatically granted admission if there was any vacant seat after the first round of admissions.

“The process adopted by the authorities isn’t transparent at all and is tilted in favour of a few,” she claimed. She alleged that the process adopted by the university was not transparent.

Despite repeated attempts, the chairperson of the department, Navleen Kaur, who had put out the notice could not be contacted.
