PSEB Class 10 exams begin, 39,000 appear in Ludhiana

The current batch appeared in the PSEB examinations for the first time as they had skipped the Class 8 exams in 2021 and were promoted given the pandemic

The PSEB (Punjab School Education Board) examinations for Class 10 commenced on Friday. About 39,000 students appeared for the examinations being held at 291 centres across the district.

The current batch of regular students appeared in the board examination for the first time as they had skipped the Class 8 exams in 2021 and were promoted given the pandemic.

As many as 39,260, including 37,682 students who are pursuing through regular mode and 1,578 students studying via distance mode were issued admit cards and were eligible for the first exam of Punjabi and history and culture of Punjab.

As per the new arrangements, the students at the centres where the examinations were held had been shifted to nearby centres, and staff from the schools were deputed on the invigilation duty.

While the superintendent and deputy superintendents were deployed by the board, the district education department also deputed around 1,000 invigilators in various schools as per the requirements.

Purvi Verma, who appeared at a government school on Cemetery road, said as the exams have been scheduled late they had got extra time for revision and completing the syllabus. Speaking about the level of the exam, she added that the exam was neither easy nor tough. Ample choice in the questions which are compulsory to attempt made it a scoring paper, she added.

Vishal Kumar, a student of Saint Patrick School said he is worried about the English exam which slated on March 27, and Math which will take place on April 3. He added that he will study extra hours to perform well in the same.

The board examinations for the classes 8 and 5 students had been restarted in the year 2020. The students of Class 10 and Class 12 were promoted by the PSEB in 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic.

New regulations for centres

Strict directions regarding the question paper had been issued to the centre heads by the board. They were required to share the pictures while receiving the question paper packet at the banks through WhatsApp. The centre heads were also asked to furnish the signatures of students present at the centres along with officials before opening the packet.

Cancelled exam of Class 12 conducted

After it was cancelled on February 24, minutes before the students were about to enter the examination venues, the English exam of Class 12 was also conducted at 260 centres on Friday.

As many as 37,833 students of Class 12 in the district appeared for exam held between 2 pm to 5.15 pm at the centres.
