Jan 04, 2023 11:56 PM IST

Led by Vidya Chavan, state NCP women wing president, the yatra will be covered with the help of vehicles.

Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), on Wednesday, launched a statewide ‘Janjagar Yatra’ or awareness march against the central government and the state government. The march will be carried out by the women leaders and workers of the party. They will travel across Maharashtra and tell people about rising inflation and unemployment since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government took over in 2014.

It started from Pune and will cover Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mawal, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Mumbai in the first phase. It is scheduled to conclude at Chaityabhoomi, Dadar, by January 20 or 22. The second phase of the yatra covering Vidarbha is likely to start from Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur, on February 1. (PTI)

“In 2014, they had promised to bring down inflation and two crore jobs every year, but even now prices of essential commodities are going up,” said Chavan. “Moreover 5% GST has been imposed on essential commodities. Where are 16 crore jobs? We will take all these issues to the people and create awareness as to how they were cheated by the BJP government.”

The yatra came as a response to the ruling BJP, which has set ‘Mission 45’ to win 45 out of 48 Maharashtra Lok Sabha seats in 2024.

The yatra has been divided into five phases which will go on for four months. In the third, fourth and fifth phases, it will cover North Maharashtra, Western Maharashtra, Konkan and Marathwada.
