Bhojpuri actress Akansha Dubey's mother and kin protested at a police station in India, demanding the arrest of Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh for the death of Dubey. Singh and his brother were booked for allegedly abetting Dubey's suicide. The deceased's mother alleged that Singh was responsible for her daughter's death and had physically assaulted her on multiple occasions. Assured by an assistant police commissioner that Singh would be arrested within 24 hours, Dubey ended her protest.

Dubey ended her protest after assistant police commissioner Gyan Prakash Rai assured her that Samar Singh would be arrested within 24 hours.

Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh and his brother were booked on March 27 for allegedly abetting the suicide of actress Akanksha Dubey, who was found dead at a hotel room in Varanasi’s Sarnath area a day earlier.

“An FIR was registered against Samar and his brother Sanjay for abetment to suicide (306) and other relevant sections of the IPC,” Sarnath SHO Dharmapal Singh said.

The FIR was based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, Madhu Dubey, who arrived from Mumbai on Monday morning.

“My daughter was very brave. She cannot commit suicide. I spoke to her on Saturday evening,” Madhu said, but added that her 25-year-old daughter didn’t respond when she called her again around midnight.

Akanksha and Samar have worked together in several Bhojpuri music albums.

According to the police, Madhu, in her complaint, alleged that Samar, who hails from Azamgarh, physically assaulted Akanksha on multiple occasions, and wanted her to work only with him. He didn’t even pay Akansha her dues for the collaborations, she said, adding that Akanksha spoke to her about these issues on March 21. On that day, she was shooting for a film project in Basti. Samar’s brother Sanjay, on the other hand, had threatened Akanksha, she alleged.
