Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Bengal’s Joynagar, a former Left bastion, is now under Trinamool control

The Joynagar Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district is reserved for the members of Scheduled Tribe community.

This constituency was a pocket-borough of the Left parties till the 2014 Lok Sabha election when the Trinamool Congress won this seat for the first time. Sanat Kumar Mandal of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (India) had held the Joynagar Lok Sabha constituency from 1980 till 2009. He was defeated by Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) supported Independent candidate Dr Tarun Mondal in the general election in 2009.

Protima Mondal of the Trinamool beat Subhas Naskar of the RSP in last general election in 2014. Pratima Mondal has been fielded again by the Trinamool Congress for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Joynagar will vote in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha election 2019 on May 19. The result will be declared on May 23.
