In a series of tweets on April 30, Modi had called BCCI’s demand to ask for more money from ICC ridiculous considering that officials had let the Board cop up bigger losses by cancelling the Champions League T20 (CLT20) tournament.

“Srini and his stooges @ the #bcci cost Indian cricket in excess of Rs 3798 crore for cancelling #ChampionsLeague and throwing out #Kochi & #Sahara #franchises. #Srini cancelled watertight contract of #clt20 and let go $500 million of revenue for #indiancricket,” he wrote.

He said that the Board lost $125 million a year between 2015-2018 in TV rights after the CLT20 was cancelled.

The Champions League T20 was jointly owned by BCCI, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa. However, the tournament had to be scrapped after 2014, when the sixth edition was held.

On April 30, Modi had tweeted, “I see the demand by @BCCI to be ridiculous keeping in mind we already make so much from #ipl and our #domestic #rights. Someone shut down #clt20 and @bcci lost close to a billion dollars. But no one bothered to check why and allowed #newsCorp to get away on water tight agreement. Now we are worried about a share of @icc revenue, which is equal to a few #india games (and) which is more needed by other nations.”
