Navratri 2017: Get set to groove to dandiya beats in Delhi-NCR

Add a dose of dance, drama and masti to your Navratri celebrations with these dandiya nights being organised across Delhi-NCR. Dress up in your best and step out!

Ever since the autumn festival of Navratri arrived on September 21, Delhiites have been raring to flaunt the best of their festive attire, and invoke the nine forms of the goddess Durga, through dance. Soak in the spirit of Navratri by participating in the dandiya nights being celebrated across the city. Even though garba is immensely popular in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR sure knows how to best make of the celebrations. We give you a low-down on the some of the best dandiya nights across the city.

Presenting a melting pot of cultural activities, Dilli Haat, Pitampura promises three unforgettable evenings this Navratri. Witness a host of activities such as nukkad-natak (street plays), magic shows, folk singing and dance performances, and dance the night away before gorging on delectable food from all over India.

Special performance

Dandiya nights at Talkatora Garden is offering three days of music, dance and loads of fun. The event is a special one indeed, as kids from the NGO SRPM for children with special needs, will be presenting a dance performance on wheel-chairs. Don’t know the right technique for doing garba? Fret not, for the event will also see artists/instructors teach the attendees how to do dandiya the right way!

Dance to the rhythm

Celebrating the festival of Navratri with great enthusiasm, the DLF Phase-2 community centre is organising a night of non-stop fun with great music and good food. Sway along with trained dancers who will groove to the peppy dandiya beats. With food stalls offering a variety of cuisines, make your evenings all the more memorable by getting clicked at the photobooth, a special highlight this year at the DLF Phase 2 dandiya nights.

Women Power

The second edition of Dance Dandiya Raas 2017 celebrates women and will felicitate nine women from Delhi-NCR. Raising a toast to the victory of positivity over negativity, the mata aarti begins at 7pm, and will be followed by dandiya. Stuff yourself with scrumptious food from all over India, and take part in a number of contests such as selfie contest, 4 days dandiya challenge, meditation session and chakra healing session. What’s more, the celebration will see Baahubali-The Conclusion actor Ashrita Vemuganti as a special guest on September 28.

Experience the spirit of Gujarat

Transport yourself to the land of garba and dandiya itself, with live music performances by Gujarati singers at this dandiya night celebration. Apart from that, a dance troupe from Gujarat will also enthral those present at the venue. Dress in colourful kedia sets and traditional embroidered Navratri outfits, and stake your claim to awards like those for the best dressed, the best dancing couple, among others. The highlight of the evening will be singer Arvind Singh Rajput’s performance.

Back to basics

Groove to the beats of Garba Dandiya Raas at Zorba the Buddha that promises a colourful evening and community dancing and feasting. Each evening will begin with the instructors quickly explaining the basics of dandiya, leading the way to a fun-filled dancing session, complete with the rhythms of dandiya sticks. End the frolicsome evenings with a delicious Indian buffet, including special Navratri food, along with cuisines from Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Fusion spin

Show off your skills on the dance floor and give your Navratri celebrations a spin of fusion music at the dandiya night celebrations at Garden of Five Senses, which is set to see performing artists Sufi Amigos, Tatva K and DJ Aadi, who will make the crowd sway to their beats.
