Back in 2020, when the farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were protesting against the three controversial farm laws framed by the Centre, which have since been repealed, Birring stepped in to do his bit. He was part of a group along with seven others that ran a makeshift school and library for the children of the agitating farmers at the Singhu border. They educated the children, who were camping in the area along with their parents and also trained them in various art forms. They set up a library and provided books free of cost to the protesting farmers and their children.

Birring’s constituency Amloh falls under Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district. In 2017, the Amloh assembly seat had 1,35,524 registered voters and was one of the 77 seats won by the Congress. It was a close contest with Congress’s Randeep Singh winning the election defeating Shiromani Akali Dal’s Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna by a margin of just 3,946 votes. Back then, the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate-- Gurpreet Singh Bhatti had made it to the third spot with 30,573 votes.
