Catfight at Delhi Couture Week

Day three at the ongoing Delhi Couture Week at the Taj Palace Hotel took off with a bang, as designers Anju Modi and Ashima-Leena got into a heated fight over the set of their combined show on Sunday. The two hurled abuses at each other loudly, creating a scene in full view of the rehearsing models and media.

The designers were apparently at loggerheads over a

jaali

(grill) that was to be part of the set. The set designer, Vikram Sharma, fell ill and that sent tempers flying as the set differed from what the designers had in mind.

“They were screaming profanities at each other over the colour of a

jaali

in the set. Leena Singh wanted a gold colour, whereas Anju wanted a white one. They started to argue and then it became dirty,” said a witness, wishing not to be named.

Others said that the war of words was so bad that those present had to physically intervene to stop the two parties from quarrelling. By late afternoon though, tempers had calmed but both the designers shared extremely cold vibes. “I wanted a white

jaali

on my set but they refused and created a complete fuss even when not an inch of their set was made in the morning. But I finally accommodated them on my set because it’s not my nature to get into silly catfights,” said Anju Modi.

“We’re known for our dignity. Whenever there is a two designer show, it’s important for both to listen to each other. But sometimes that doesn’t happen,” said Leena Singh of Ashima Leena.
