According to an eyewitness, a prisoner fled from the police station in the commotion along with other people, but the police denied this.

The bees descended around 7am when the policemen were sitting at a tea stall near the police station. The police personnel and several others in and around the police station were attacked. Chaos ensued as people started running helter-skelter and even those who had come to register their complaint fled to safety.

While some policemen covered themselves in blankets, others locked themselves in the police station’s rooms. The situation was brought under control in an hour, but the policemen were seen walking around in headgear for the rest of the day.

“The swarm of bees came from a nearby neem tree. The people sitting at the tea stall were injured and were sent to a private hospital. However, only three people suffered major injuries,” said Devicharan, sub inspector, Farrukhnagar police station.

Around three beehives were spotted near the station. Police officers said someone probably disturbed a hive in the morning, due to which the bees attacked the people nearby.
