India needs skill development centres: Rudy

The country needs a skilled population and universities should work together to achieve this goal, Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said on Saturday.

Rudy, Union minister of state skill development and entrepreneurship, and parliamentary affairs, was addressing students of Ansal University at their convocation address in Sector 55.

As many as 100 students participated in the convocation.

Dignitaries at the event said skill development, which is a part of higher education, is biased in the country.

“India lacks training centres for skill development. The concept of education is not updated in the country. Only books cannot solve the issue,” Rudy said.

He pointed out that out that Make In India cannot happen unless there were “makers” in the country.

Sushil Ansal, the chancellor of Ansal University and chairman of Ansal API, presided over the function. “We are at a crucial point where India’s economy is integrated with the global economy. Thus, basic knowledge cannot solve all problems. We have to strengthen and sharpen our skills,” Sushil said.

Speaking to HT on the sidelines of the event, vice-chairman of the university Pranav Ansal said the university is focused on practical knowledge more than theoretical.

Responding to a question about his take on the transfer of private colonies to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon Pranav, who is also a realtor, said, “We have been trying for such a thing to happen for the last 10 years. I am happy that consumers will benefit from this.”

He also said he was hopeful that the government will soon address the crisis that the newly developed sectors are facing. “We are hopeful that the new sectors will get all facilities as more people shift there. The government should ensure that there is a balanced development at all sectors,” Pranav said.
