Bihar polls: EC ‘cautions’ Sushil Modi for offering freebies
The Election Commission on Saturday asked BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi to be careful in his election speeches, days after it had issued a similar warning to RJD leader Lalu Prasad.
The Election Commission on Saturday asked BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi to be careful in his election speeches, days after it had issued a similar warning to RJD leader Lalu Prasad.
In an order issued on Saturday, the poll watchdog said Modi had not denied the allegations that he tried to induce the voters stating if the BJP comes to power, it will give colour television sets to Dalits so that they can watch Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He had also announced giving laptops to students before the BJP declared its vision document.
The EC termed this as a violation of the model code and asked Modi to be cautious in future.
“The Commission cautions you to abide by the provisions of MCC in letter and spirit and be more careful in future,” the order said. An FIR has already been lodged against Modi for allegedly inducing voters.
