Addressing a Press conference, BJP MLC Kedarnath Singh said the SP was trying to manipulate polling by pressuring the administration. He added the Varanasi administration had provided criminals contesting the election on the Samajwadi Party ticket with gunners.

He said the BJP had raised the issue of criminalisation of politics during the campaign.

Singh said the BJP submitted a list of hypersensitive and sensitive polling stations and booths to the Varanasi administration and sought tight security arrangements on the polling day.

He claimed his party would win the Varanasi Nagar Nigam election and its mayoral candidate, too, would also emerge victorious.

At another Press conference, Congress MP Rajesh Mishra said the Varanasi administration had issued warning cards to a large number of Congress workers. He claimed around 1500 warning cards were issued in the Dalmandi area. They were also issued to families in several localities, he added.

He said he had met an election observer in this connection and lodged the party’s complaint over issuing of warning cards to the Congress workers.

He added the Samajwadi Party leaders had violated the election code of conduct by moving about in beacon-fitted cars and pasting posters and banners on government buildings.

Mishra alleged a large number of fake domicile certificates and driving licences were distributed to SP workers. He apprehended that these fake certificates would be used during poll. He demanded that the State Election Commission deploy policemen of other districts in Varanasi on polling day.

However, Dr Mishra claimed that the Congress would win more than 50 corporators’ seats and the party’s mayoral candidate Chandradeo Prasad Jaiswal would emerge victorious.
