Leader of Opposition LK Advani has said the struggle for democracy and against terrorism, fuelled by religious extremism, are inseparable in Pakistan.
Advani said the international community must understand that those who have imposed Emergency for perpetuation
of military rule in Pakistan cannot be a reliable ally in the struggle against jehadi terrorism.
BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley sought to link Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and the Congress, saying that Emergencies proclaimed by them were a result of an in-built desire to perpetuate personal power.
Jaitley said the developments in the neighbouring country were a “replica” of what India had gone through in 1975. He expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan in their struggle for restoring democracy and the rule of law.
In Kerala’s Kollam district, Defence Minister AK Antony on Sunday termed the developments in Pakistan as sad and unfortunate. It was India’s wish that a stable government existed in Pakistan, he said.
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha expressed concern over the violence and political instability in Pakistan, saying religious fundamentalism could be self-destructive.
