For the first time India would have got a taste of the best of international fashion, with Christian Dior bringing in 13 Marlene Dietrich-inspired, John Galliano-designed pieces from his ready to wear spring-summer 2004 collection.

However, two days before the show that was scheduled to be held today at Brix, The Grand, the FDCI refused permission to showcase the collection. When Christian Dior representatives questioned Krishnan on his commitment, he flatly said that there was no written deal, a reaction that put the entire Dior team in a fix.

Dior, the official watch for Lakmé India Fashion Week, is now looking at walking out of the event. And the new twist to the tale is that FDCI has refused to refund their sponsorship money. Also, the party planned today with Rohit Bal is in a state of uncertainty. The truth is that the FDCI felt that by bringing John Galliano to the fashion week, it would create undue competition for the local designers.

The collection that was to be displayed captured Dietrich's impeccable style and would have unleashed a first of its kind fashion feast for the buffs in the city.

For, much like Dietrich herself used to constantly transform her image, Galliano too had given a new-age definition with four different looks out of the 13 pieces. Unfortunately, watching the style of Marlene Dietrich, the 1930s celluloid queen, will remain a dream for Delhiites.
