Congress jeers at CM for taking credit on Scindia projects

District Congress Committee president Prakash Khandelwal today disagreed with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s remarks on development schemes in this region during his Gwalior visit yesterday.

At a press briefing at the Congress office here, Khandelwal took a swipe at the BJP for taking credit on development projects initiated and  implemented by MP Jyotiraditya Scindia with financial support from the Centre. He ridiculed Chouhan for not mentioning Scindia while enumerating schemes ranging from power-sector reforms, software technology park, SEZ, restoration and strengthening of water bodies, Gwalior-Dewas four-lane road project and so on.

Khandelwal lauded Scindia for his commitment to integrating this region with the national mainstream. He said Scindia initiated a series of projects including 765 kva Gwalior-Bina transmission line (at a cost of Rs 400 crore), 400/220 kv power sub-station at Shivpuri, rural electrification schemes under APDRP and RGGVY,  lifeline express, Chanderi tourism, weavers’ uplift project, road, education  and employment.

Scindia also took initiatives on reopening five stone mines, he said adding mining activities were regarded as the lifeline of the rural people of Shivpuri district.

Scindia’s contribution to industrial development (GAIL gas pipeline worth Rs 100 crore), extension of railway services and sports has been acclaimed by people, Khandelwal said. The development schemes mentioned by Chouhan in his press conference yesterday were actually initiated and funded by Central ministries and the state’s contribution was minimal, he said.

However, Khandelwal said, Scindia always cooperated with the state government.
