He was delivering the valedictory address of the fourth Refresher Course on Environment at Academic Staff College in Banaras Hindu University here on Tuesday.

Prof Mohanram said, “We will have to keep ourselves away from consumerism approach to check deterioration in environment. He also cited the lifestyle of Mahatma Gandhi in this regard.

Expressing concern over rising pollution in the Ganga, Prof Mohanram said, “Each person of the society will have to come forward to check Ganga pollution. He said, ”Plants survive even in adverse atmosphere and in the same manner human beings should also learn lessons from plants.”

He suggested human beings to have control over day-to-day needs and ensure that the environment is not affected from their deeds. He said that a balanced and collective effort was required to conserve environment.

Presiding over the valedictory session, the dean of Science faculty, Prof P Chandra stressed the need for environment conservation. He said that a teacher should always learn. He expressed hope that such type of refresher course will give new directions to learning and teaching activities in environment science.

Dr SK Tiwari of Academic Staff College welcomed the guests and dwelt upon the role of college in improving skills of teachers. He said that as many as 42 orientation and 96 refresher courses have been conducted by the Academic Staff College so far.

Course coordinator, Dr. SB Agrawal told the guests about the 21-day refresher course. He said the participants were imparted latest information in environment science. Dr AK Saxena and Dr Sushma Upadhyay shared their experience about course. Dr Jitendra Pandey conducted the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
