Councillor takes up poor drainage issue with Huda
Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is in the line of fire of the public and civic representatives for poor maintenance of sewerage in Sector 27.
Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is in the line of fire of the public and civic representatives for poor maintenance of sewerage in Sector 27.
According to residents, the sewage system is not regularly cleaned and as a result, it always remains clogged. The overflowing drain poses a threat to public health, said a resident.
Meanwhile, Rama Rani Rathee, councillor of ward no 34, has taken up the issue of poor drainage with Huda and sought immediate action.
The councillor said, "It has been more than five years since Huda handed over plots to owners in Sector 27 where more than 300 families have already moved in. Several houses are also under construction. Residents have expressed their concerns over the poor living conditions."
She asked authorities to clean up the sewage on a regular basis so that it won't become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Although the Huda has been claiming that it had completed 80% of the master trunk sewer along the highway, the work in this sector is yet to be completed. Sector 27 has many important institutions, including a branch of the Shri Ram School.
Residents said the stormwater drain is clogged, resulting in flooding of the area.
Apart from the sewage problem, water supply is also another area of concern for residents.
The supply is erratic and the water received is muddy. There are leakages in the pipeline, leading to immense wastage.
Many residents are also angry that the authorities have done little to remove illegal settlements from the area.
"The settlements should be removed from this area. The roads are also in a very bad condition. Most of the streetlights are non-functional making the whole area unsafe," rued a resident of Sector 27.
