CRPF man kills self, 2 colleagues
A CRPF constable shot dead two colleagues and seriously injured two others before killing himself during a counter-insurgency operation in Tripura, reports Syed Sajjad Ali.
A CRPF constable shot dead two colleagues and seriously injured two others before killing himself during a counter-insurgency operation in Tripura’s remote Dhalai district on Thursday.
Police and CRPF officials said a unit of the force’s 133 Battalion was on a road opening patrol. At around 10 a.m., when the unit reached Borobari, which falls under Gandacherra police station, Constable Bisram Singh is reported to have suddenly opened indiscriminate fire. Havildar P.K. Sharma and Constable R.K. Shil Sharma died almost instantaneously while Havildar S.S. Ram and Constable Pabitra Dorenga sustained serious injuries.
Constable Bisram Singh then killed himself before he could be overpowered, CRPF officials claimed.
The injured have been shifted to a hospital in Agartala.
However, since there are no eyewitnesses in the case, some doubts have been raised. Particularly regarding the authenticity of the “suicide theory”, as some believe that Constable Bisram Singh was shot in retaliatory firing.
Constable Bisram was a resident of Bihar while the other two deceased, P.K. Sharma and R.K. Shil Sharma, hailed from Assam.
Shooting incidents among security forces in Tripura have assumed serious proportions. At least 14 officers and subordinates have been killed in “same side” shooting incidents in the last four years.
