THIS WAS the first time that heads of different religions came under one roof and joined hands to condemn the March 7 twin blasts in the strongest possible words, declaring that terrorism had no place in any religion. The blasts claimed 16 lives and left a large number of innocent injured.After the blasts, all the communities played a dynamic role in maintaining communal harmony with even Muslim religious heads pronouncing fatwas against the terrorists on the demand of the local Muslims.

After the blasts, all the communities played a dynamic role in maintaining communal harmony with even Muslim religious heads pronouncing fatwas against the terrorists on the demand of the local Muslims. It was a unique example of communal harmony set by the people of Varanasi in the aftermath of the blasts. However, the Muslims did not stop there.

They even decided to organize a seminar to be represented by all religions on Sunday (March 26) with head priest of Sankat Mochan Temple Prof Veer Bhadra Mishra as the chief guest. It may be mentioned that the first blast took place inside the Sankat Mochan Temple premises, followed by another at the Cantonment railway station.

All the speakers, while lashing out at terrorists for executing an anti-national agenda in the country, warned them that their actions were inhuman, similar to that of infidels.

Prof Veer Bhader Mishra in his emotional speech said that a religious and true Muslim was better than an irreligious Hindu. Similarly, Shakul Hadees Mufti of Jamia Islamia Abdul Qasim Nomani said that a true and religious Hindu was better than an irreligious Muslim. 

, Mufti-e- Banaras Maulana Abdul Batin Nomani lambasted terrorists for their vain bid to whip up communal passions in Varanasi on March 7.

The Mufti said any body who resorted to terror acts and claimed to be a Muslim was a liar. Paramjeet Singh, priest of Gurdwara Gurubagh expressed concern at the growing menace of terrorism.Dr Father Santiago, representing Christians, also attended the conclave “Terrorism in the present context’.

A large number of people belonging to different communities participated in the seminar, which was organised at Jamia Salfia in Revdi Talab area on Sunday. Ateeq Ansari, convenor of Rabita Committee Madaris Arabia dwelt on the madaris and its role in nation-building.
