I was never a contender for PM's post: Pranab
"I've never aspired for any office," said the senior Cong leader while refusing to disclose whether he would be part of the new Cabinet.
Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said he was never a "contender" for the country's top post and pledged his full support to Prime Minister-designate Manmohan Singh.
"I was never a contender. I have never aspired for any office. Offices come. I have been minister for 14 years, starting from the days of the early 1970s when I was inducted by Indira Gandhi. Therefore, I have a wide experience as a minister and as a Parliamentarian", Mukherjee told NDTV.
When asked whether he hoped to be Prime Minister one day, Mukherjee said "I do not believe in these type of things, hoping etc".
Mukherjee, however, pledged support to Prime Minister-designate Manmohan Singh.
"So far as support to Manmohan Singh is concerned, surely. He will have my full support".
The former Union Finance Minister, however, declined to comment on whether he would be part of the new Cabinet.
"It is too premature to say. After all, every Prime Minister has a prerogative to choose his team. Therefore, I would not like to make any comment right now".
