In a joint statement issued at the business summit with Chinese President Hu Jintao, China's commerce minister Bo Xilai and union commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath said that failure "just cannot be countenanced", specially as this was a development round.

Calling for greater flexibility in negotiating stances, the two ministers said that successful outcome should not only expand trade opportunities for all, but also safeguard critical developing country interests such as livelihood security.
