India unchanged for second Test

The national selectors again ignored middle-order batsman Mohammad Kaif, keeping faith with VVS Laxman and left-hander Yuvraj Singh.

India have retained their 14-member squad for the second Test against Pakistan starting at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on March 16.

"The selection committee which met here under the chairmanship of Kiran More decided to retain the same squad (which was selected for the first Test)," Indian cricket board secretary SK Nair told reporters.

He said the squad for the third Test in Bangalore would be announced in Kolkata during the course of the second Test.

The ongoing first Test is tilted in India's favour going into the final day on Saturday with the visitors only 53 ahead in their second innings with four wickets in hand.

The national selectors again ignored middle-order batsman Mohammad Kaif, keeping faith with VVS Laxman and left-hander Yuvraj Singh.

Laxman, who was under pressure going into the match after scoring only two half-centuries in his last 15 innings, struck 58 after recovering from a shaky start.

Pakistan are scheduled to play three Tests and six One-Day Internationals on their first full tour of India in six years due to political tensions between the south Asian neighbours.

Squad: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Vangipurappu Laxman, Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Irfan Pathan, Anil Kumble, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh.
