by-laws would be implemented only after approval by BMC Council and subsequent ratification by the State Government. The council would discuss the issue during its next meeting on January 28.

It is proposed that throwing of garbage like papers, piece of glass, cartons, canes, foodstuff, pouches of food items, carry bags of polythene and any other type of garbage at public roads, lakes and water bodies would be prohibited. Besides, throwing handbills, pamphlets and piece of papers at these places through moving vehicles will also invite fine.

Any type of wall painting or writing at any public wall, bridge and other public place would also be banned.  It is expected that this proposal would get support from both BJP and the Congress. Senior BJP corporator Alok Sanjar said there is need to strictly implement such by-laws.

There are certain rules in this regard but not being implemented properly. So, officials should be made responsible for implementation.  Other BJP corporators are also likely to support this proposal.
