The men in olives want to go on a green drive. The Indian army wants to generate biofuel for its vehicles by cultivating Jethropa plant in its military farms. And it has got a leg-up in this unique venture from the Union Agriculture Ministry, which is helping it to cultivate the plant for generating the green fuel.

The army's 'vision document' — released recently — inks in detail the military men's eco-friendly idea, which it proposes to sell to private players.

The army, it seems wishes to emulate the US army, whose vehicles run on biofuel. The US army consumes 84,000 gallons of this fuel every year.

 

 

In fact, a collaboration between the two armies on an environmental programme has been proposed by the US army and it is likely to fructify by mid 2006. This is being tabled before the Executive Steering Group (ESG) of the army. The Indian army might take some pointers from their US counterparts on the use of biofuel.
