"In some cases, their own children abandon them, forcing them to resort to begging to make ends meet. Our initiative is a small step towards fighting the social evil", PNB's Odisha circle head S K Dokania said today.

Listing achievements of the bank, Dokania said PNB now enjoys the status of being among the largest nationalised banks in terms of volume of business and second largest among all banks in the country due to its continued good performance.

In the first quarter of the current fiscal, PNB had recorded the highest turnover and efforts are on to maintain it, he said adding PNB remained a profit making bank since inception 118 years ago and earned dividend all these years.

Interacting with the beneficiaries at a Loan Mela held by the bank here, Dokania said the bank was the custodian of public money and it was imperative on its part to ensure security of the money as well benefit of the customers.

The bank has a unique Mediclaim insurance policy for Rs five lakh available only for its account holders and their three dependents in association with Oriental Insurance Co Ltd with IRDA guidelines.

“It is unique because this is the cheapest mediclaim insurance policy available in the country now and covers the account holder and three dependents aged upto 80 years “, he said adding PNB had also entered into life insurance space in association with MetLife which would help it with wide reach.

Besides, the bank had taken initiatives to install soundless generators in all its branches so that fuel-run generators did not further contribute to the sound pollution level in the atmosphere, he said.
