The three-phased parliamentary elections in Bihar have been the most peaceful election in the past several years, the states police chief said.

"The general elections in Bihar were most peaceful, except for sporadic violence, compared to the past elections," said Narayan Mishra, Bihar's police chief.

State chief secretary K.A.H Subramaniam also voiced similar opinion and said: "Contrary to the fear of large-scale violence and killings, elections passed off peacefully."

The official figure put the death toll at nine during the general election in Bihar for the 40 Lok Sabha seats. Three people were killed in the first phase on April 20, four in the second phase on April 26 and two on May 5 in the third and final phase of elections.

Unofficial sources, however, put the death toll during these elections at 20.
