THE MINORITY community can progress only through education. Though the state government is doing its best, the lawyers belonging to the minority community should come forward to inspire the members of their community to pursue higher education.

THE MINORITY community can progress only through education. Though the state government is doing its best, the lawyers belonging to the minority community should come forward to inspire the members of their community to pursue higher education.
Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh Virendra Bhatia said this while addressing a programme, organised by Alpsankhyak Adhivakta Association at the Library hall of the Allahabad High Court, here on Sunday.
On the occasion, a seminar on ‘Role of lawyers in present social conditions’ was also held.
While lamenting the communal forces, Bhatia said that some elements are trying to divert the Muslim community from the real issues. Therefore, the lawyers of this community should come forward to enlighten the minorities and inspire them to go ahead.
Coming down heavily on those who term the present government headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav as pro-Muslim, Bhatia said that there was nothing wrong in helping the Muslims to progress. Muslims are as patriotic than anybody else in the country as thousands of Muslims have sacrificed their lives.
Highlighting the concept of secularism enshrined in our Constitution, Bhatia said the present Chief Minister of UP had given up this chair earlier in order to protect the secular fabric of the country.
Now people are appreciating this move. Therefore, it is the duty of lawyers to protect the secular fabric of the country.
Bhatia said that as per the advice of the CM, around 20 per cent seats of State Law Officers, known as ‘sarkari vakil’, have gone to the members of  minority community and women.
He said that as per advice of the CM, he has been encouraging the lawyers of minority community and lady lawyers since he has been appointed Advocate General.
He said that the CM’s act of doubling budgetary allocation to Rs 30 crore shows his special regard for the lawyers.
On the occasion he released a directory of the lawyers belonging to minority community.
While former chairman of Bar Council of UP and a senior lawyer of High Court NC Rajvanshi presided over the programme, Ashifa Zamal Azmi, advocate conducted it. Nizam Khan, president of Alpsankhyak Adhivakta Association was the programme convenor.
President of High Court Bar Association CL Pandey, advocate Ateeq Ahmad Khan, Hazi Nazrul Islam, Yar Mohammad and others also addressed the gathering.
Former vice-president of HC Bar Association Harbansh Singh, former treasurer of HCBA Shree Rang Pandey, HN Mehrotra, joint secretary (Press) of HCBA OP Tiwari, Vinay Pratap Yadav, Rajiv Shukla, Rizwan Ali Akhtar, ZH Hanfi, Kashi Nath Singh and Alok Mishra attended.
