Rs 500 notes to have more security features

Except for change in the inset letter, the design of these notes is similar to the bank notes issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi series.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday said it would soon issue Rs 500 denomination bank notes with inset letter 'E' in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi series-2005 with additional security features.
"Except for change in the inset letter, the design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the banknotes issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi series with additional/new security features issued on October 21, 2005," it said in a statement.

All bank notes in the denomination of Rs 500 issued by the bank after 1997 would continue to be legal tender, it added.
