This ‘misfortune’ has robbed them of the glory they deserve after being selected to represent India in the World Fencing Championship in South Korea from April 9. When Himalaya is not practicing fencing at the Tatya Tope Stadium, he helps his father Harka Vishwakarma sell chaat near Birla Mandir.
The year before, Himalaya represented India in Austria. In January this year, he lost 15-13 in the quarterfinals against Scotland in the Commonwealth
Championships held at Chennai. Bhopal may be blissfully unaware of the boys’ feat, but their neighbours at Om Nagar slums, are ecstatic.
Himalaya’s father Harka Vishwakarma remarked, “It’s like dream come true that my son has been selected for the world championship.” The story of Amardeep, who is training at Patiala, is also similar.
