Mohanti was accused of helping his son jump parole, a charge under which he was arrested leading to his suspension from government service in 2007.

He was, however, reinstated in the same post in 2009, just before the general elections.

His 25-year-old son Bitihotra, convicted for raping a German woman on April 12, 2006, was granted parole in November 2006 on condition of returing to the jail in Rajasthan by December 4, 2006.

Bitihotra did not return and went missing. His whereabouts are still not known.

"I will work for the uplift of the children of prisoners and spend time with the kids," Mohanti said.
