Tug of war for Norway kids continues

The tug-of war continues over the ‘Norway kids’, even in India. This time, it is between their uncle Arunabhas Bhattacharya and mother Sagarika Chakraborty, who took the battle to the Kulti police on Thursday.

On Thursday, Chakraborty asked police that she be given custody of her two children and alleged she was not being allow-ed to see them. Bhattacharya alleged she was trying to take away the kids by force.

On April 25, the Norwegian authorities had handed over the custody of four-year-old Abhigyan and 15-month-old Aishwarya to Bhattacharya after keeping them in state custody for almost a year. The battle between the Norway government and the parents had hit the headlines.

“Sagarika lodged a verbal complaint that Bhattacharya’s family did not allow her to meet the children,” Sanjib Dey, inspector in-charge of Kulti police station told HT.

Chakraborty stays in Birati, 200 km from where the children live. She had met the children last on April 26.

On Thursday afternoon, she reached her in-law’s house at Kulti to pick up the children, but was not allowed to enter the house. Enraged, she went straight to the local police station, following which cops visited the Kulti house.

“On Thursday, my daughter went to meet the children. They did not open the door,” said Sagarika’s father, Monotosh Chakraborty.

Bhattacharya, meanwhile, lodged a complaint with the police stating that Chakraborty, along with some criminal elements, had gone to his home and tried to take away the children by force.

“Under the agreement with Norway, we have to take care of the children till they turn 18.”
