Twin landslides hit Sikkim; two missing

Two landslides occurred due to heavy downpour in the west district town of Yuksom damaging several houses.

Though no casualties have been reported two minors aged nine and 15 have been missing after the landslides, Superintendent of Police (West) AK Chand said.

Several tourist huts, two private houses and two government houses have been damaged by the landslides, which occurred late on Thursday evening.

District Collector (West) Ravindra Telang left for the spot early on Friday, but is still on his way as the road to the affected area is blocked.

However, relief and rescue teams despatched to the affected area on Thursday itself have somehow managed to reach their destination and begun their operations with the help of the locals, the SP said.
