The national football team and German golfer Martin Kaymer registered fabulous wins. Interspersed was the joy brought by news of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher coming out of coma.

Germany are a great sporting nation and their stars — across disciplines — gave them enough reason to rejoice on Monday.

The national football team and German golfer Martin Kaymer registered fabulous wins. Interspersed was the joy brought by news of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher coming out of coma.

The day started with 29-year-old Kaymer winning the US Open, his second major, at Pinehurst. Kaymer nicknamed the 'Germinator' dominated proceedings at the Pinehurst Resort with an eight-stroke victory.

As the country rejoiced, in came the news that seven times F1 champion Schumacher, who suffered severe head injuries in a ski accident last year, had come out of coma.

He was transferred to a Swiss medical centre, officials said, but gave no details of his condition. Only a handful few know how he is, but for the legend’s fans, this is perhaps his greatest comeback.

The day got even better for Germans, courtesy their team’s performance at the Football World Cup in Brazil.

Thomas Mueller scored a hat-trick as the Die Mannschaft thrashed Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal 4-0. Mueller's treble, the first one of the tournament, took him to the top of the goal scoring chart.

The 2010 Golden Boot winner (5 goals) has started from where he left off in South Africa and the German team has again become one of the most talked about.
