Youngest ever captain to lead B'desh in Champion's Trophy

A 14-member squad, led by its youngest ever captain Rajin Saleh, left for England on August 26, 2004 to take part in next month's ICC Champions Trophy.

A 14-member Bangladesh squad, led by its youngest ever captain Rajin Saleh, left for England on Thursday to take part in next month's ICC Champions Trophy.

Former skipper Habibul Bashar, who is suffering from a broken finger and Bangladesh Cricket Board officials were at Dhaka's Zia International Aiport to see the team off.

"I am proud to be chosen for such a big responsibility," Saleh told reporters before the team left for Britain. I have skippered other teams before and I have Khaled Mashud with me to help me with his wide experience," said a confident Saleh.

"I have toured England thrice before and will share my experience with Rajin," Mashud said.

Mashud, who has led the side before, is the vice-captain of the team, which also saw the return of middle-order batsman Foysal Hossain, who was initially dropped for his poor performance in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in July-August.

"The 20-year-old Saleh is the youngest skippper ever to lead the national team," a Board official said.
