Gehlot was in Kota to attend a public meeting to observe the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi organized in Kota’s Sangod by former minister Bharat Singh to protest against the removal of a state of Gandhi from the town’s Gandhi Chowk in 2016.

“The Congress will win the by-polls in the Ajmer and Alwar Lok Sabha seats and Mandalgarh assembly constituency,” he said.

Later speaking to media persons, Gehlot said people of Rajasthan will no longer be fooled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state despite getting a thumping majority in the previous assembly polls and general election, the ruling party has put on hold public welfare schemes started by the former Congress government in the state.

“The Metro train project, coach factory at Bhilwara, refinery and dam projects have been kept on hold for a long time so people will teach a lesson to the BJP,” he said.

Asked about the proposal of the Modi government of holding simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls, Gehlot said: “The Prime Minister is scared of anti-incumbency wave in the BJP-ruled states, including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh so the Modi government wants to organize simultaneous polls but the Congress will win whether the elections are conducted together or not.”

Addressing a public meeting in Sangod, Gehlot said the Modi government came to power by making false promises but now there is farm distress across the country while corruption, inflation and unemployment has also increased.

“PM Modi is targeting Rahul Gandhi after the Congress’ performance in Gujarat so Rahul was deliberately disgraced by offering him a seat in the sixth row at the Republic Day ceremony in New Delhi,” he said.

The issue of removing Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on his death anniversary does not merely speak of the mindset of the BJP but also the direction in which the country is moving these days, which is not in the interest of the country, said Bharat Singh.

Former state minister Shanti Dhariwal said: “Modi made people smell chloroform during the last assembly polls due to which people fell unconscious but now people are regaining consciousness about the failure of the Modi government.”

Senior Congress leaders, former ministers and legislators from the Hadauti region, were among those present at the public meeting in Sangod.
