Swine flu deaths: Central team sent to Jodhpur, Pali
In Jaipur, 454 positive cases have been detected and there have been 11 deaths, while in Jodhpur there were 52 positive cases with 11 deaths and in Pali 13 positive cases with three deaths.
Swine flu has reached an alarming proportion in the state with a total of 636 positive cases being reported (with 41 deaths) from January 1 to 28.
The death rate in the state has been 6.4%, while in Jaipur it is 2.42%, Jodhpur is 21.15% and Pali is 23.07%. In Jaipur, 454 positive cases have been detected and there have been 11 deaths, while in Jodhpur there were 52 positive cases with 11 deaths and in Pali 13 positive cases with three deaths.
“Central teams have been sent to Jodhpur and Pali to find the reasons of the high death rate, while Jodhpur chief medical and health officer has been asked for the factual report,” additional director (rural health) Dr Ravi Prakash Mathur said.
Dr Mathur said that a special audit of every swine flu death is being carried out. He said that a thorough investigation of the deaths taken place between January 1 and 11 is being done. A total of 16 deaths took place during this period and investigation revealed that the deceased were in age group of 51-64 years and were vulnerable.
According to health department, from January 1 to 28, a total of 5,673 samples were taken of which 636 were found positive. In January 2014, there was one case and one death, while in 2015 there were 173 swine flu positive cases and 43 deaths, in 2016 there were 86 positive cases and 19 deaths and in 2017 there was one case and one death.
He said emphasis is being given on increasing awareness. Pamphlets are being distributed in swine flu affected areas. Screening is being done at night shelters, hostels, schools, and paying guest facilities across the state.
