Pritam Singh is the Congress candidate from the Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency. Singh will face sitting MP, BJP’s Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah in the April 11 polls in Uttarakhand. Of course it is. The problem is acute in the area. Unless the government make arrangement of sanitary workers, there’s no point opening toilets. The local corporations lack dedicated staff and the government should focus on hiring sanitary staff first.

Poor healthcare services ail the constituency. Do you agree?

Totally. Not only Tehri constituency, but the entire state is facing problem due to lack of doctors, staff, technicians and others. When the Congress was in power in the state, we established small health units in the form of primary health unit (PHC) an community health unit (CHC). The then government also arranged doctors and paramedical staff in all these units. But, today’s situation is serious. If there’s a staff in a health unit, there aren’t medicines or equipment.

What are your poll promises?

Comprehensive development is our main agenda. Our government opened several degree colleges and polytechnic colleges across state. Now, students have to travel several kilometres because the government is not providing avenues in higher education. We aim at restoring road connectivity in remote areas. All Weather Road is only limited to national highways but we promise to take roads even in the interior villages.
