IPL case: Shastri summoned by ED
The Enforcement Directorate has sent summons to former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri in connection with investigations into the Indian Premier League (IPL) season two. Manish Pachouly reports.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sent summons to former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri in connection with investigations into the Indian Premier League (IPL) season two.
The summons faxed to Shastri about two days back asks him to appear before the ED authorities at the agency's Mumbai office next week.
However, Shastri is currently in England to do commentary on the India-England series. It is not known if the agency would give him more time to appear, in case he requests for the same.
ED officials said that Shastri was summoned as he was member of IPL's governing council and would be aware of major decisions, concerning franchises, taken at that time.
The ED has already registered a case in April last year under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi who is currently in London.
ED sources said that Shastri's statement would be important, as he could give clear idea on how decisions concerning franchises and various contracts for IPL were taken and what role did Modi play exactly in various controversial decisions.
Sources said that Shastri's statement would be taken to strengthen case against Modi who has refused to come to India despite several summons by ED.
ED is investigating flow of unaccounted money from Mauritius and Cayman Islands into various IPL teams by their franchises.
