More than 18,500 parents and children from 53 schools had spent No TV Day painting their idea of a perfect day spent with their family without watching television.

The drawing done by Tanvi Gadade, 11, showed her family enjoying beside a swimming pool.

“I like swimming and I painted a swimming pool which shows my parents and me enjoying by the poolside,” said Gadade, a student of Powai English High School.

Shambhavi Jha, 11, from Atomic Energy Central School No 2, Trombay, painted a serene beach. “I won the second prize. We actually went to the beach that day and enjoyed a lot,” said Jha.

More than 500 people visited the exhibition. A painting of the Gateway of India done by Ebrahim Vasi, 12, who was declared the overall winner, was a big draw.

“I had been sailing near the Gateway of India and I loved the grand structure,” said the Class 7 student of Jasudben ML School, Khar.

“I am feeling great. On No TV Day I did not watch television. Instead, I read and sketched to my heart’s content,” he added.

Aarsh Dodhia, 13, from Hiranandani Foundation School, Thane, was proud that not only did his painting win a prize but he was also able to resist the temptation to watch his favourite television show, CID, on No TV Day.

“Aarsh did not allow us to watch television on that day. We played scrabble, monopoly and the day ended with a pillow fight,” said his mother, Priti.

“Both my daughters won prizes. They did not allow us to watch TV. People should definitely support such a cause,” said Veda Choudhary, a Malad resident.
