Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime, said Moiz, who is reportedly unstable, was arrested by Unit 10 of the crime branch. “He has admitted his crime and confessed that he had committed it for easy money to fulfill his alcohol and smoking addictions,” Roy said, adding that Moiz had been pressurising his parents to sell their Andheri (East) flat and to settle down in Pune. His parents however, did not agree to his suggestions.

On July 18, neighbours of Nooruddin, 87, and Zubeida Bharmal, 83, informed the police about a foul smell emanating from the couple’s first-floor flat in Manisha Apartments at Marol Naka. On breaking down the door, the police found the decomposed bodies of the couple. The police also found strangulation marks on their necks.

Moiz told the police them that on July 16, around 11am, he strangled his father with a cotton bed sheet. He then waited for his mother to finish her afternoon prayer and then killed her as well. Moiz then mortgaged Zubeida’s jewellery for Rs24,000.

After two days, as the bodies started to decompose, Moiz fled to Pune where he earlier lived with his wife Shamin and son Hussain. His wife had committed suicide in 2004.

After visiting his wife’s grave, Moiz spent a few days in a hotel. He then went to Goa where he spent the money on drinking and partying.

Roy said following his arrest, Moiz told the police that he would constantly fights with his parents over money.
