“The victim used to watch television at her neighbour’s house every day. On Saturday, at 8 pm, she went there as usual. When the neighbour went out of the house for some work, his brother, Alfad Idbal Kazi (18), sexually abused her,” said Police Inspector Vinay Kulkarni of the Mahim police station.

The girl returned home and narrated the incident to her mother. After the victim’s family filed a complaint at the Mahim police station on Sunday, the police arrested Kazi, who collects footwear at Mahim dargah.

“Kazi, who lived at Balania lane slums in Mahim with his mother, would come to his brother’s house every day for dinner,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity for lack of authorisation to talk to the media.

“Kazi was arrested on Sunday evening. We will produce him before the metropolitan magistrate’s court at Bandra on Monday,” said Kulkarni.
